The
American Board for Certification in
Orthotics and Prosthetics
ABC
is the national certifying and accrediting body
for the orthotic and prosthetic professions. The public requires and deserves
assurance that the persons providing orthotic and prosthetic services and care
are qualified to provide the appropriate services, and it was on this basis that
the ABC was established as a credentialing organization.
City Brace Company's and Ousley's Prosthetics' professional staff of
Orthotists and Prosthetists are certified by the American Board for
Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics (ABC) and are Licensed in the state
of Texas.

ABC Certification and State Licensure insures a
high level of commitment to the profession by requiring educational standards,
residency requirements, and Certification examinations.
To sit for an ABC or State Licensure exam,
applicants must possess either a Baccalaureate Degree with a certificate in
Prosthetics/Orthotics or a postgraduate certificate of education in Orthotics
and/or Prosthetics, and complete a 1900 hour clinical residency under a
certified practitioner.

Practitioners may be ABC certified and state
licensed in either Orthotics (C.O., L.O.), Prosthetics (C.P., L.P.) or both (C.P.O.,
L.P.O.). ABC Certification must be renewed every five years.
Orthotists and Prosthetists must continue their
education, studying to ensure they know the very latest technology and patient
management techniques. The continuing educational standards provide a gateway
to the latest standards and technological advances in both disciplines.

Orthotists and Prosthetists
study anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, gait analysis, pathomechanics,
kinesiology, pathology, materials science, research methods and
diagnostic-imaging techniques.
They are fluent in all aspects of healthcare
and have a strong foundation to provide efficient, professional and accurate
services to our patients.
